This was a unique opportunity to experience what many of our advanced students and instructors have experienced at Krav Camp and off-site seminars….expert knife instruction from a nationally-known expert, Ken “Shadow” Goodman.

American Drengr Krav Maga hosts monthly seminars relevant to our geographic area, current events, and local concerns of citizens and law enforcement. The February 13th seminar focused on a variety of threats in various public transport settings.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has identified several contributing factors to increased assaults on public transit (subway, trains, buses, and city cabs), these include:
• societal issues such as homelessness, substance misuse, and mental health crises;
• fare evasion;
• escalation of minor conflicts and unprovoked assaults;
• ridership and crowds;
• differences in operator location between rail, bus & cab; and
• local laws and policies (e.g., decriminalization or lack of prosecution).

Types of assault types on these systems include harassment and threats; pushing, spitting, slapping, kicking, or punching; sexual harassment and unwanted touching; assaults with weapons; and, in some cases, homicides.

In this real-world defense awareness seminar, trained experts from American Drengr Krav Maga trained participants to develop situational awareness, respond to violent threats, and how to survive these potentially dangerous situations.

November 7th Edged Weapon Defense Seminar

Our students and guests completed an American Drengr Edged Weapon Defense Seminar, gaining vital skills in recognizing and responding to sharp instrument attacks. This training was crucial as edged weapons are easily acquired and represent the most common type of weapon used in fatalities (35%). Attacks are rising, and the danger is severe: victims have a 33% chance of being injured if involved in an attack. Furthermore, many people don’t see the weapon coming, underscoring the need for specialized training to spot danger cues. Within striking distance, an edged weapon is even more lethal than a firearm.

The instruction was grounded in the “Avoid, Confront, Treat” model, which served as the foundational framework for responding to these dangerous situations.

American Drengr Krav Maga collaborated with the City of Manassas Police Department to provide a 12-hour R.A.D. defense system course. The 12-hour course is for women only and covers awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance, in addition to hands-on defensive training.

The training benefited participants at the Manassas Senior Center, which focuses on providing services and education to foster independence for community members 55+.

We are thrilled to team up with the Manassas Police and local agencies, providing crucial defensive training to empower women and better serve our community.

June 23d through June 27th R.A.D System Instructor Training

Mr. Greg, Ms. Sharon, and Mr. Joe spent the week with Manassas City Police going through R.A.D. Instructor Training. Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) is a nationally recognized program of self-defense tactics and techniques for women, 12 years of age and up. In addition to the Basic Self-Defense Instructor Course, Greg and Joe completed the Dynamic Simulation and Aggressor training. We are excited to work with the City of Manassas Police Department and local agencies to better serve our community through defensive training and empower women to be better able to protect themselves.

June 7th, Historic Manassas Railway Festival

Students and friends joined us at the Historic Manassas Railway Festival! All had a chance to celebrate the rich railroad history of Manassas with exciting activities for all ages. All had an opportunity to explore model train displays, browse train memorabilia, and shop with specialty vendors. They also got a chance to embark on a scenic train ride aboard the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Excursion Train. We love being part of a fun, vibrant community!

American Drengr hosted a SKILLZ WORLDWIDE live event on Saturday, April 5 for our instructors, select Drengr Volunteers, and other local martial arts schools. The purpose of the event was to add value to our Little Warrior and Jr program by developing a deeper understanding of child development – physical, mental, emotional, and social. As members of Skillz Worldwide we have access to new drills and additional training in child development related to teaching martial arts. Our goal is to equip instructors with the skills and knowledge to make a lasting impact on the mats. The event covered essential strategies for working with kids but also included Instructor Certification in Child Development. This certification elevates our instructor’s expertise and credentials, giving us a deeper understanding of how to create enriching environments for children of all ages.

We are striving to add value to our children’s programs by developing a deeper understanding of child development – helping children develop skills physical, mental, emotional, and social areas. Skillz Worldwide programs help children build confidence, manage emotions, and develop resilience. As new members of Skillz Worldwide we have access to new drills and additional training in child development related to teaching martial arts. Our goal is to equip instructors with the skills and knowledge to make a lasting impact on the mats. We are hosting a day-long seminar for instructors and select volunteers with the founder, Melody Johnson, on Saturday, April 5.

Women’s self-defense seminar, January 24th

We started off the New Year with the first in 2025 Women’s self-defense seminar series. Surviving an attack is more than training your body — it includes training your mind and spirit to be resilient. We believe Krav Maga can help you find the potential for strength that you already have and push you to develop it.

Our women’s self-defense classes incorporate multiple training methods to build a fighting spirit and to train women how to respond both mentally and physically in a time of need, eliminating the danger of “freezing” or “shutting down” in confrontations.

Buddy Week, January 27th through February 1st

We hosted our quarterly Buddy Week for all ranks, with special activities for everyone. Students were invited to have a friend join them in class any and every day of the week.

Black Belt Testing, November 23rd, 2024

Eight of our black belt students successfully completed testing requirements for their 2nd degree Black Belts on November 23d. They put a ton of work towards this day, with periodic pre-qualifications, plus three day-long pre-tests… and gave it just as much on this final day of testing in front of their families.
